Sunset over the Iron Men of Crosby
One November afternoon back in 2007 I could see a decent sunset just starting to form in the western sky so I grabbed my camera, my wife Josie and our little terrier dog Milly and we all jumped in the car and drove to Crosby Beach, on the mouth of the River Mersey just North of Liverpool.
When we arrived the sunset was perfect. We walked along the beach and I just kept shooting, composing my shots using different statues, the setting sun, the water and hills of North Wales in the far distance. I took loads at different settings as I was unsure how they would turn out.
Back then I was shooting with the original Canon EOS 5D with a 24-70mm lens. Adobe Lightroom had only just been launched and I was using DXO Optics Pro to edit my photos. Once I'd edited the photos I exported a few as high resolution TIFF files and stuck them in a folder of my personal work.
And there they stayed until late January 2026 when I found them again and put them in a gallery called the Iron Men of Crosby on my Fine Art website.
It's funny to think that the one of the first fine art landscapes I'd taken and been hidden from view for 19 years was the first photograph to be bought when I launched my fine art website at the end of January 2026.
